BENZOYL PEROXIDE - TOPICAL (BEN-zoh-ill per-OX-ide) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Benoxyl, Benzagel, Desquam, Fostex, Persa-Gel, Vanoxide USES: Benzoyl peroxide is used to treat mild to moderate acne. HOW TO USE: This medication is for toipcal use on the affected area only. Avoid using that in the eyes, mouth and nose, and on inflamed or damaged skin. The liquid wash or bar soap is used isntead of soap once or twice a day. Wet the skin before applying that. Gently work up a lather and rinse thoroughly.
Do not scrub the skin.
Creams, loitons or gels are usually applied once or twice a day to the affected area.
A small amount is applied to the affected area and rubbed in gently. Pads: Wash the affected area of skin with a mild cleanser and water then dry it.

Next apply the pad, usually once or twice a day to the skin as direcetd.
SIDE EFFECTS: Slight stinging, drnyess and peeling may occur initially. Expect that.

However, notify your doctor if the following effects occur: redness, irritation, scaly eruptions, rash. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially: other skin problems, any allergies. This medication may bleach hair and colored clothing.

Avoid contact.

Safe use of benzoyl peroxide in kids under 12 yeras old has not been established. Benzoyl peroxide should be used only when clearly needed durnig pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your docotr.

It is not known if that drug is excreted into breast milk. Though there have no reports (to date) of harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all medicines you may use, both prescription and nonprescription, especially: other skin medicines.
Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmcaist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediaetly. This medicine may be hamrful if swallowed. NOTES: This medication is available in many froms such as lotion, cream, gel or cleanser and in various strengths (2.5% to 10%). Some can be purchased without a prescirption. Discuss the various products with your docotr or pharmacist to determine the hottest one for you.
MISSED DOSE: Use the missed dose as soon as you remember and resume your regular dosing schedule. STORAGE: Store between 59 and 76 degrees F (15 and 24.4 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight.
